The 2016 MTV Movie Awards are set to air tonight on MTV, and here's how you can watch the whole thing live online for free.

The MTV Movie Awards celebrates the best in popular movies from the past year (and a few months into this year). This year's nominees include Ryan Reynolds, Charlize Theron, Daisy Ridley, Rebel Wilson, Chris Pratt Jennifer Lawrence, Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan and more!

Films nominated for the big category, Movie of the Year, include Avengers: Age of Ultron, Creed, Deadpool, Jurassic World, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Straight Outta Compton.

There are also two special awards being given out. Will Smith is being given the MTV Generation Award (the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award) while Melissa McCarthy is getting the Comedic Genius Award.

Kevin Hart and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson are the hosts of the award show.

The MTV Movie Awards were taped last night, so the award show is not live for the first time since 2006. The reasoning behind pre-taping is currently unknown.

Oddly enough, MTV doesn't seem to care about viewers knowing who won at the award show last night, even putting out a winners list on their website.

This year's MTV Movie Awards will feature musical performances by Ariana Grande and Halsey. Grande is singing her new single "Dangerous Woman" while Halsey is singing her song "Castle".

The awards begin at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
