While reshoots for Star Trek Beyond are underway, we have gotten some more recent updates about the film.

Most exciting was a glimpse at Simon Pegg in a still revealed last month. Pegg looks very different, and quite like he is on a serious mission. In the image he is seen with newcomer Sofia Boutella, who plays the part of an alien named Jaylah. The still was unveiled via Paramount. Pegg is seen wearing the classic Star Trek uniform and looking stunned looking up at something with the exquisite Jaylah.

Recently director Justin Lin also posted a behind-the-scenes still honoring a momentous day in the Star Trek universe, i.e, the first day of earth's contact with the Vulcans. The director of Star Trek Beyond posted a still from the first day of filming, in which he is seen on set in a forest setting with two actors in alien getup.

The movie will be available to watch on Barco Escape theatrical screens. This special version of the film will be released by Bad Robot, Paramount and Skydance to give fans an immersive experience. The Hollywood Reporter revealed this bit of news, also getting a statement from Bad Robot producer and head of visual effects, Ben Rosenblatt about this development. "When you're on the bridge of the Enterprise, you might see additional coverage of the bridge," he said. "Or you might see the Enterprise coming across the screen - and maybe you'll see more and the attacking forces. There are new ships and antagonists that are well suited to the expanded image."

Fans are still guessing who Idris Elba is portraying in Star Trek Beyond and in a recent interview the actor just teased that curiosity a bit more.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor revealed who his favorite character was in the Star Trek franchise but revealed little to nothing about his mysterious role.

"Captain Kirk!" Elba said about his favorite character. "Kirk was just smooth, man. There was nothing fazing him. In times of ridiculous peril, Mister Kirk was the coolest actor on the set."

When the interviewer tried to get him to dish about his role by asking Elba about the relationship to Kirk, the actor gave a funny yet evasive answer. "Can we say," Elba says, a smile somehow audible over the phone, "Jaws and Dory?"

In news about the reshoots of the movie, it was revealed that actress Shohreh Aghdashloo is coming on board, and she will be playing the part of High Command of the Federation. Aghdashloo is known for her work in House Of Sand And Fog and House Of Saddamand is also the first Iranian actress to win an Emmy (2009).

Zoe Saldana, who plays an Enterprise communications officer Uhura, posted a pic on the set from Instagram revealing the old '60s-inspired uniform for Star Trek. From what we had seen from previous uniforms, they had short sleeves and were revamped some. But Saldana's latest reveal shows her in the classic uniform, which is a nod to the '60s series.

The movie has been written by Pegg and directed by Lin.

One new face to look forward to will be Elba, although nothing is known about his character right now. He's being played as the surprise card much like Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Trek: Into the Darkness.

In other latest casting news, it was revealed that Lydia Wilson will also be joining the crew, but little is known about her character so far.

Star Trek Beyond is the third entry in the rebooted sci-fi franchise, which already includes Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek: Into the Darkness (2013). The first two were helmed by J.J. Abrams, who's now busy heading up the Star Wars sequels, so this one is directed by Fast & Furious reviver Justin Lin with the familiar crew of Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Bones (Karl Urban), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Sulu (John Cho) and Chekov (Anton Yelchin) all set to return.
