Now that Prince has passed away in an untimely death Thursday, vintage footage of the singer’s ex-wife Mayte Garcia, has resurfaced as she explained her marriage to the now late icon.

Garcia, who starred in VH1’s Hollywood Exes, said during the show’s time on the network, that she still a huge Prince fan. Garcia, who previously served as one of his background dancers, said, “I hear his music and if its BM , Before Mayte, I’m like ‘Word!’ And if it’s after, I think of choreography. The sentimental songs aren’t very popular so I avoid those. But the hits, they’re still on the radio. I like it.”

She also shared stories of what it was like to be married to the controversial pop star.

She connected with Prince after her mom handed a demo tape to one of his dancers and Garcia met him “five minutes later.” The two continued to stay in contact for the next two years. She had an opportunity to dance in Cairo but Prince convinced her to join his team. It didn’t take long for them to spark up a romance before they tied the knot when Garcia was 22.

“The transition wasn’t too crazy except he was my husband. He’s true to what you guys think. Of course he’s a human being…That’s why we lived in Minnesota…Because it’s a very chill and beautiful place.”

She went on to open up about her life after splitting from Prince.

“It was a culture shock,” she said. “I kind of felt like an 18-year-old. You know, when you leave your home and you’re on your own.”

Garcia was also engaged to Tommy Lee at one point.

“No more musicians… No thank you.”
