Chris Brown’s assault against Rihanna might have been more than seven years ago, but more information is coming out about it; including who was by Brown’s side after his career-changing moment that fateful night.

Prince sat down with Rolling Stone back in 2014 in an interview that just went public Monday. And even though Brown has said that Michael Jackson is his ultimate influence, it was Prince who wanted to help Brown after the incident. Prince told the publication that he had hopes of mentoring Brown and even invited him to his Minnesota estate, Paisley Park.

He was “shocked” at the thought that what Brown did could not be forgiven.

“Unforgivable? Goodness. That’s when we go check the master, Christ…Have you ever instantly forgiven somebody? It’s the best feeling in the world, and it totally dismantles that person’s whole stance.”

While he stayed mum on Jackson’s 2009 death, he added, “[Jackson] I sjust one of many who have gone through that door—Amy Winehouse and folks. We’re all connected, right, we’re all brothers and sisters, and the minute we lock that in, we wouldn’t let anybody in our family fall. That’s why I called Chris Brown. All of us need to be able to reach out and just fix stuff. There’s nothing that’s unforgivable.”

Fans will also learn more about Brown’s side of the incident in his highly anticipated upcoming documentary, Welcome To My Life. He and his mother describe the night Brown brutally assaulted his then girlfriend, Rihanna, as they headed to the Grammys, as the worst night of their lives. Brown said he contemplated suicide and “felt like a monster.”

But now, he is confident his career is stronger than ever and continues to plan to move forward. Check out the teaser below.
