There is almost no doubt that the Apple Watch has not sold as well as the Cupertino-based giant has hoped. With a high price point and an interface that was considered slow by many users, the Apple Watch ultimately proved to be a tough product to sell.

Recently, however, Apple seems to be gearing up to address its first wearable's most prominent problems. During its recently-held WWDC 2016, Apple showed off WatchOS3, which is designed to make the Apple Watch faster than even before. Now, Apple has also targeted the device's other weakness - its price.

In collaboration with Best Buy, Apple has slashed off a huge chunk of the Apple Watch's price. Through the promotion, AT&T, Verizon and Sprint customers who are purchasing an iPhone 6S or 6S Plus would be able to get the Apple Watch for a measly $49.

That's right. Apple has just officially slashed off about $250 off the Apple Watch's regular price. Considering that the device cost more than $300 when it was first unveiled, offering the smartwatch at just $49 is quite unheard of from a company such as Apple.

Analysts, however, believe that the massive discount is a strategic move for Apple, which is rumored to be preparing for the release of the iPhone 7 and the Apple Watch 2 later this year. Thus, the $250 Apple Watch discount might very well be the tech giant's way to clear out its inventory to make way for the firm's new flagship devices.

As much as the promotion is an attractive one, however, many Apple fans remain apprehensive. After all, the Apple Watch was not received very warmly by most critics due to its limitations as a first-generation device. Thus, many Apple fans are simply waiting for the Apple Watch 2 before they commit to the tech giant's wearable devices.

Then again, the iPhone 6S is still Apple's best flagship to date, only bested by the upcoming iPhone 7. Plus, the WatchOS3 update would make the Apple Watch a far more capable device. Thus, for the pragmatic Apple fan, at least, the $49 Apple Watch deal might very well be quite a steal.
