After many NBA players opted out of playing in the Olympics in Rio this year, Carmelo Anthony was one who decided to brave the storm and compete. Now, he has broken a record and bested the likes of Cleveland Cavaliers star Lebron James.

Team USA took on Team Australia Wednesday night in a game that seemed hopeless for Anthony and his teammates like Draymond Green. They were losing att he halftime mark and finally caught up late in the game. But it was Anthony who saved the day while making history.

In the end, he scored 31 points; bringing his total points in the Olympics to 276, which made him the all-time leading American scorer in Olympics. James once held the title with 273 points. Team USA ended up winning by ten points.

While the guys play against each other over here in the states, they were able to come together for the nation. Kyrie Irving (who it turns out was born in Australia) of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors are great examples. Their teams went head-to-head in the NBA Finals earlier this summer, with Cleveland taking home the coveted trophy. But when Irving scored a nasty three pointer against Australia, Green, who was on the opposite end of the shot a few weeks ago, was able to appreciate it this time around.

He gave Irving, who he called his “son” a shout out of his own.

As for the women’s team, they won by 26 against Serbia. They have never lost a game in the Olympics since 1992.
