The wait is nearly over as trekkies are surely getting excited for the upcoming Star Trek: Into The Darkness mega-flick, which will hit theaters on May 7.

In accordance with its upcoming release, Paramount Pictures released a new trailer for the film on April 16. The cinematic footage reveals a sticky confrontation between the likes of John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Captain Kirk (Chris Pine). See the video below.

Back in December, director J.J. Abrams spoke to NME about the fascination behind Harrison's character.

"His name is John Harrison and he is sort of an average. That is what makes him so scar," he said. "He is just an average guy who works in an organization called Starfleet, and he turns against the group because he has got this back-story and this kind of amazing secret agenda."

A Japanese trailer was posted on YouTube on April 23 and the 1-minute in length clip reveals one action-packed sequence along with a showing of Harrison making threats toward Spock (Zachary Quinto). The respective trailer showcased one of the first major set pieces in Into Darkness, as Harrison is witnessed wreaking havoc on London.  There are shots of the captain diving through space, Spock in a volcano, Harrison with a vicious grin and the Enterprise in a compromising position.

On April 23, another notable snippet was revealed of a chase involving Spock, Kirk, Uhura (Zoe Saldana), and other Enterprise crew members as they barely escape a pursuing spacecraft.

While there hasn't been too much information revealed on the storyline thus far, it was confirmed that the film will be shot in 3D.
