Charlie Sheen believes that his ex-wife Brooke Mueller wants temporary custody of their twin boys taken away from Denise Richards because of money.

Sheen's twins with Mueller were removed from the care of their mother on May 1. The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services thought  4 year old twins Bob and Max were not safe in her home because of suspected drug use. The children were placed in the temporary custody of Richards. Richards is also Sheen's ex-wife and the mother of Sheen's two young daughters.

However, on May 11, Mueller went to court to have Richards stripped of custody. She petitioned a  judge to place her brother in charge of the kid's welfare and apparently wanted them to live with her at the Betty Ford Center. Mueller is in treatment for her dependency issues. The judge rejected the request.

On Wednesday, TMZ reported that Sheen's lawyers will argue in court that Mueller wants Richards stripped of custody because of financial reasons. Mueller currently receives $55,000 monthly child support. Sources close to Richards said that the actress had proof that Mueller made clear that she wanted and needed the money while Mueller will counter that Richards is the one who is in it for the money.

That claim has been disputed by other sources who say that Richards has not asked Sheen for more money. In fact, it was reported that she turned down any financial incentives.

"Charlie is extremely generous, and wanted to make sure having the twins in Denise's care didn't place a financial strain on her," a source told RadarOnline." Denise was thankful for the offer, but declined because she has the financial means to take care of them herself.

Other sources corroborated Sheen's belief that money was the root of why Mueller wanted Richards stripped of custody.

"Brooke hasn't worked in years and is unable to keep a job because of her addiction to drugs," a source said.

Mueller allegedly has a lavish lifestyle and offrs financial help for her family. She has no other resources beyond the money that Sheen gives her for child support.

"Brooke doesn't have any money saved and lives month-to-month on the child support," the source said.
