Katy Perry did a little confession when she received the National Equality Award at the Human Rights Campaign gala in LA recently. The 32-year-old star talked about her sexuality and her 2008 hit song "I Kissed a Girl."

"Truth be told, I did more than that!" Katy Perry told the crowd referencing "I Kissed a Girl." However, it somehow contradicts the identity she is once known. The "Roar" hitmaker is known for being a gospel singer when she is younger.

Katy Perry explained that she is curious about everything. And even though she has been raised in youth groups, she perfectly knows that sexuality is a little dirty, according to The Sun. "When that song came out, I knew that it started a conversation that a lot of the world seemed curious enough to sing along to it," she continued.

Moreover, Katy Perry went on to explain that she is just a singer and a songwriter who speaks her mind. Through her music, the "Chained to the Rhythm" singer expresses her fantasies with her "little bite size pop songs."

Katy Perry admitted that she started to change the image she is once known for when the music allows her to leave her comfort zone. The former girlfriend of Orland Bloom has been raised by her pastor parents, Mary and Keith, thus she grew up knowing that homosexuality is a sin.

In fact, Katy Perry admitted that she even "prayed the gay away at Jesus camps." However, in a major twist of fate, things have changed and she met people that she is once taught to be afraid of.

Katy Perry then realized that they are the "most free, strong, kind and inclusive people" that she ever knows. She then advised everyone that even though it would be a tough road to be out in the open, one can always choose who they want them to be, in spite the differences they have with their family.
