New photos taken of Emma Stone on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 may have revealed a massive spoiler for those familiar with the comics.

Stone returns to play Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker/Spider-Man's love interest in the sequel to 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man. The film is set to be released in 2014.

In the pictures, which were released on Tuesday, Stone is wearing a sea-foam green coat, a purple skirt and black boots, which is a familiar outfit to readers of the original Amazing Spider-Man comics. See the photos here.

SPOILER ALERT:

The outfit Stone wears in the photos is exact same outfit Gwen Stacy wears in the comic when she dies. In issues #121 and 122, she gets involved in a battle between Spider-Man and his nemesis, Green Goblin and becomes a tragic casualty.

"I am a huge fan of the Gwen Stacy saga in the comics," said the films' director, Marc Webb, in 2012.

"I think it's one of the more interesting and controversial storylines -- certainly in Spider-Man and really in all comics. I think one of the reasons that it was interesting to tell [the] Gwen Stacy [story] is because of that element. But, of course, you need to establish that connection. And we'll see how that unfolds."

Stone admitted in 2012 that her death was part of the appeal for the character.

"I think there's a certain expectation and then there's a certain awareness of mortality that Gwen has already [...] just because her father was in the face of death everyday and so is Peter, so I think death always surrounds her. I think it's a really important element to her character.

" I mean, she, as fans know, is kind of most famous for how she departs." Stone added, "So that's a weird thing to play, knowing about such an iconic part of her existence."

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to be released May 2, 2014.
