Recent photos from the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have fans fearing for the life of Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy, but director Marc Webb is reluctant to part with the actress.

Depicting Stone the same green and purple attire that the comic book version of Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) girlfriend wore on the night she was killed by the Green Goblin, the photo seemed to put a nail in the character's coffin. However, Webb's comments at last weekend's Comic-Con may point to a different direction for the character in this film.

"There are parts of the canon we feel really obligated to," Webb said, according to MTV. "There are parts that we deviate from. The Gwen Stacy saga is a very important and powerful one, but Emma is an incredibly beguiling actress, and I like having her around."

With two more Spider-Man films on the horizon, there is still plenty of time for Webb and his crew to ruin Parker's young love life. Unfortunately, the upcoming sequel is packed full of villains - Electro (Jamie Foxx), The Rhino (Paul Giamatti), and a potential Menace (Felicity Jones) - so there is still ample opportunity to write the character out in Spider-Man 2.

Fans will find out Gwen Stacy's fate on May 2.
