Did Jennifer Lopez start dating Ben Affleck while she was still engaged to Alex Rodriguez?

For over a year, Lopez and Affleck constantly made their relationship even stronger after getting their second chance. However, the public still has no idea when the Bennifer ship started sailing again.

To answer fans' lingering questions, Lopez's "Shotgun Wedding" co-star Cheech Marin exclusively revealed to HollywoodLife when exactly the duo started everything all over again.

During the 4th Annual Griot Gala, the 75-year-old actor revealed that Lopez was so happy all the time while filming the movie in the Dominican Republic in March 2021.

"She was cool. We had a real good time while filming. We were filming in the Dominican Republic this time last year, which was quite lush," he said. "Even for J.Lo, filming in the Dominican Republic was quite lush."

His statement resonated with what a news outlet confirmed in May, saying that Affleck reached out to Lopez again when she was in the Dominican Republic.

In April, Rodriguez and Lopez released a joint statement confirming their split.

"We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so," they said via NBC. "We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects."

They did not disclose the reason at that time, a close friend of the 51-year-old pop singer revealed that the couple had many unresolved issues that led to their breakup. An insider also revealed that the actress lost her trust in her former beau while trying to make everything work and not waste her years-worth of engagement with Rodriguez.

Meanwhile, Mercury News also pointed out that Rodriguez's ego affected their relationship so much. It led the athlete to assume that there would still be a possible reconciliation between him and Lopez.

Their split came years after the athlete popped the question to J. Lo and received "Yes" in return in March 2019.

With the timeline, it is possible that Lopez indeed found comfort in Affleck which led her to choose him this time instead. One source even said that Lopez rekindled her relationship with the "Batman" actor as early as February. During that time, Affleck reportedly sent multiple e-mails while the actress was busy filming her upcoming film in the Dominican Republic.

Regardless of their status when they started moving forward, Lopez, Affleck, and Rodriguez are all in better places now.
