Joe Exotic and his spouse Dillon Passage were assumed to be together for life by fans. However, that was not the case.

After four years of marriage, Joseph Maldonado-Passage filed for divorce from Dillon.

It comes after Dillon said they were "seeking a divorce" a year ago, but it was Joe who finalized the split in court.

Joe filed for divorce in Santa Rosa County, Florida, according to the "Tiger King" star's attorney Autumn Beck Blackledge, who spoke to TMZ.

Despite a public declaration announcing their divorce in 2021, Dillon failed to serve his spouse and did not pursue a divorce via the legal system, per the lawyer's press release.

It went on to say that Joe attempted to get more information about Dillon and his location in order to engage into an amicable divorce, which the former is hoping for, but that his efforts to reach his then-husband were unsuccessful.

Joe Exotic said in court records that his and Dillon Passage's marriage is "irretrievably broken," and that he is seeking alimony as well as the removal of his surname "Passage" from his name.

Dillon's lawyer, Jeff Duncan, told People magazine that they are now delighted to have "finality" in their divorce.

They then blamed Joe for failing to sign the required documentation on two occasions when Dillon was trying to file for divorce last year.

"Dillon is relieved to get some closure and is looking forward to moving through with his divorce request from Joseph Maldonado."

On the other hand, it seems that Joe Exotic is just ready to move on from all of this, despite being imprisoned, since the 59-year-old star is apparently moving on in the love department.

Joe is seeing a guy called John Graham, according to his attorney, and he might be the reason Joe has finally gone through with the divorce.

"The prison romance is why Exotic just filed divorce papers from jail," Autumn said.

Meanwhile, Joe remarked, "God works in marvelous ways," in a statement to ET.

The two allegedly met in February 2021 at FMC Forth Worth in Texas, more than a year ago.

John was freed only a few weeks ago, on March 15, after completing a 12-year sentence for burglary and handgun possession.

John would be Joe's third spouse if he and Joe married.

After a 2017 murder-for-hire conspiracy involving his enemy, Carole Baskin, Joseph Maldonado-Passage is presently serving a 21-year term in jail.
