Twitter has been buzzing about what's to come from Cannes Film Festival, what with the new slate of films vying to take home the coveted Palme d'Or, but there was one story about the extravagant French film festival, now in its 75th year, that has been in the minds of cinephiles worldwide.

When will famed director David Lynch announce what his next film is going to be?

Speculation was running wild that Lynch had a new project he was getting ready to unveil at this year's festival, but alas, it turns out that the rumors were false. He has made it clear to several entertainment sites that the rumors were just that.

While talking to The A.V Club Tuesday, the Blue Velvet director was quick to dispel the notion.

"I have no film at Cannes, no. In fact, no one has ever even asked me that. You're the first person that's actually asked me, 'David, do you have a film at Cannes?' I say no, I don't have a film at Cannes."

As the interview continued, Lynch was asked - in an attempt to figure out whether he was being coy for the shock factor - if, perhaps, it wasn't a film at all which he might bring to Cannes; Maybe a television project, the likes of Twin Peaks, or another creative endeavor. He responded:

"I'm not trying to trick you, I have nothing at Cannes. But there'll be something new from somebody else. It wasn't me, though. It isn't me."

It seems the only project we can currently be expecting from the famed director is a re-release of the remastered Inland Empire from 2006, his last feature-length film, which starred Laura Dern as an aging actress who gets lost in her onscreen persona, leading her on a surreal journey into madness.

Here's hoping we get something new from David Lynch in the future, until then we can enjoy his weather reports on YouTube.
