With anticipation high for the upcoming sequel to Top Gun, aptly named Maverick after Tom Cruise's call-sign in the original film, Paramount studios is revving up to give fans what they want. The need for speed.

After several COVID related delays, audiences have had a long wait to see Cruise reprise the role that made him one of the most thrilling action junkie actors in Hollywood. They recently released a high energy promotional video that shows exactly what kind of insane aerial training the actors in the film went through to make Maverick one of the most exciting aeronautical spectacles ever filmed. Spearheaded by Tom Cruise, himself, the vignette of aerial acrobatics training was designed by the Maverick star to prepare the cast for the real flight scenes they would be filming for the project. And boy, did he put them through the wringer.

The video shows actual cockpit footage of the cast being trained to act through high G-Forces in order to bring the realism of danger which has become a trademark of Tom Cruise films for years. Ever the perfectionist, Cruise discusses how he "was not ready to make a sequel until we had a special story worthy of a sequel. And until technology evolved so we could delve deeper into the experience of a fighter pilot."

The video show cast members Miles Teller, Greg Tarzan Davis, Monica Barbaro, Manny Jacinto, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, and Glen Powell put through not only dog fight simulations in F-18's, but also underwater aircraft evacuation training which is a must if a pilot were to have to eject from a plane. Their boot camp also included spatial awareness training in smaller aircrafts, building up to faster jets, as well as camera operation classes for when the actors would literally have to direct themselves during the flight sequences since a cameraperson could not be up there with them.

Intense is not even close to the right word for how hardcore this looks.

Given Tom Cruise's track record as not only an A-lister but a seasoned stunt professional, Top Gun: Maverick looks to have all of the thrilling earmarks of an amazing follow-up to one of the most popular films of the 80s.

Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to fly into theaters on May 27, but until then you can enjoy the rush of this video down below.
