Adult Swim has just announced a spin-off anime series of one of their most popular shows: Rick and Morty

Fans of the show might remember a couple of episodes directed by Takashi Sano for the network's digital platforms; Rick and Morty vs. Genocider and Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil).

he shorts were a huge hit with viewers - enough so that a ten episode series of Rick and Morty: The Anime has been greenlit.

Sano wants audiences to know that these versions of the characters are going to be singular to the spin-off, saying in a statement,

"The multiverse-straddling exploits of Rick and the gang pose challenges to the family bond, but they always rise to the occasion. It's such a life affirming sight, and Jerry is no exception. I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!"

Sano has been working in the realm of anime since the early 90s, working his way up from Animation Department to Director when he worked on Tower of God (2020).

Having watched his two Rick and Morty shorts, I have to say: the work speaks for itself. They have all the quirky, oddball adventures of the original series, but the addition of anime tropes and art style help them to stand out on their own.

It is too early to know when Rick and Morty: The Anime will be coming out, but fans are in for a treat for sure.
