Ahead of its June 10th U.S. release, Universal's Jurassic World: Dominion wins big at the South Korean box office at $6 million. This marks the final installment in the Jurassic World trilogy as the fourth biggest opening day for the South Korean box office, after Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Avengers: Endgame, and Along With The Gods 2 - the last of which stars top South Korean talents, such as Squid Game's Lee Jung Jae and Eternals' Don Lee.

Besides this impressive showing, Jurassic World: Dominion also holds the highest South Korean opening day during the COVID-19 pandemic, and as reported by Deadline, the film also has the second best Universal launch day ever, and the best Election Day debut ever.

However, all this success might not last very long: We must take into account the potential splash Top Gun: Maverick may make when it debuts in South Korea on June 23rd. While the Colin Trevorrow-directed big budget blockbuster seems to have charmed South Korean audiences so far, the Tom Cruise-starring film has been steadily garnering raving reviews and great press, drumming up the hype for the Top Gun sequel.

It's very likely that this third Jurassic World flick will only be able to maintain its current spot until the fighter jets arrive.

So, while we're happy for Jurassic World: Dominion's success insofar, especially due to the intriguing premise of bringing together the main casts of both the original Jurassic Park trilogy and its Jurassic World sequel trilogy, we're looking forward to seeing how the film will hold up under the stiff competition brought by Top Gun: Maverick.

We also look forward to seeing the kind of reception Jurassic World: Dominion will get in the States; there's not nearly as much hype, but only time will tell.

Jurassic World: Dominion is set for theatrical release in the U.S. on June 10, 2022.
