Paulina Rubio's mother, Susana Dosamantes, has unexpectedly died. She was 74.

Rubio confirmed the tragic news in a saddening statement on Instagram, saying that the actress passed away on Saturday. She shared a photo of Dosamantes and honored her life through the social media post.

"My example of life, a being of light, a strong woman, today joins eternal life. We greatly appreciate the doctors, nurses and all the hospital staff for taking such professional care of my angel. We infinitely appreciate your understanding and respect at this difficult time. We ask for privacy for our family and friends," part of the statement said, as translated by Hola!.

It did not disclose Susana Dosamantes' cause of death, but Dallas News noted in its report that the actress passed away months after she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

She was first hospitalized at Mount Sinai Medical Center in April.

According to the National Cancer Institute, pancreatic cancer is a type of the dreaded illness in which cancer cells form and develop in the organ's tissues. Unfortunately, it is one of the cancer types that is difficult to diagnose early.

It is the same illness that took the lives of notable Hollywood stars and personalities, including Alex Trebek, Steve Jobs, John Hurt, Luciano Pavarotti, and Alan Rickman, to name a few.

Actress Susana Dosamantes Continued To Receive Treatment Before Death

When Dosamantes learned about her health issue months ago, her representative Alejandra Palomera told PEOPLE en Español that the actress was receiving treatments but was not hospitalized.

She also continued her chemotherapies in the months leading to her death.

Rubio revealed the struggles they had been going through and asked Dosamantes' fans to pray for her.

"I am in a very sensitive moment in my family, and vulnerability is something that you have to teach, I want your best prayer for my mother, who is always with me, and we live in moments of uncertainty in the family," she said.

The actress was famously known as an actress in Mexico. She made her debut in 1968 through the flick "Remolino de Pasiones." After starring in more projects and telenovelas, she won the 1990 TVyNovelas "Best Antagonist Actress" award for her role in "Morir para Vivir" telenovela.

Dosamantes' family is yet to confirm the details of her funeral.
