Anna Wintour succeeded Grace Mirabella's position at Vogue Magazine as editor-in-chief in 1988, and she has been working with the company for decades now. Many have been speculating about her retirement and who could possibly replace her.

According to the BBC, it has been rumored for years in the fashion industry that Edward Enninful would be her replacement at the American Vogue if she decides to step down from the position.

Today, the British fashion connoisseur spoke out about the issue, saying the public loves to speculate about his and Wintour's relationship, but he's happy with where he is today.

Regarding his position at the famed fashion magazine, Enninful said, "you know, you never know what the future holds."

As of this writing, the 72-year-old editor has not commented on the matter.

Edward Enninful's Piling Health Concerns

Over the past years, Enninful suffered from several health conditions, specifically in his eyes.

The outlet noted that he had already endured four operations for his eyesight problems, including a detached retina.

Unfortunately for him, he had to look at the floor with his head down in a dark room for weeks as part of his recovery process, which he labeled "psychologically intense."

Speaking about his health condition, the British Vogue editor-in-chief said losing his vision is his biggest fear.

He noted that he never had good eyesight since he was young and always wore his "minus 10 glasses."

Enninful had a big realization at the time of his surgery, saying he doesn't need a perfect vision to create and see images.

"So that's the irony of it: though I have bad eyesight, I'm still able to create images that people seem to resonate with," he said.

Aside from his problems with eyesight, the fashion editor also suffers from a blood condition called thalassemia that causes severe pain.

He had several transfusions at a very young age, way before he moved to the United Kingdom from Ghana when he was 13 years old.

His mother stayed in his country of origin for a while as he and his five siblings stayed at his aunt's small flat in London.

He was thrown out of the house at a young age after telling his father that he'd been skipping classes to continue his job in the fashion industry.

Enninful is set to release his book titled "A Visible Man: A Memoir" on September 6.
