Benedict Cumberbatch appears to have backed out of his role in Crimson Peak.

The Star Trek Into Darkness star will not be featured in the next flick from director Guillermo del Toro, according to Variety.

Currently busy filming the BBC's Sherlock, Cumberbatch recently wrapped work on The Hobbit. However, sources tell the Telegraph that scheduling conflicts weren't at the heart of the actor's decision to leave the project.

However, the Brit isn't the first actor to jump ship on the horror flick. The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Emma Stone backed out early to be replaced by Mia Wasikowska (Only Lovers Left Alive). Currently still attached to the film are Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Jim Beaver (Supernatural), and Burn Gorman and Charlie Hunnam from del Toro's recent Pacific Rim.

Even without Crimson Peak on his list of upcoming films, fans will be seeing quite a lot of the popular actor in the coming months. Cumberbatch will team up with director Bill Condon to bring the story of WikiLeaks to theaters in The Fifth Estate this October; appear in 12 Years a Slave, also in October; star in Sherlock this November; and feature in August: Osage County this coming January.

Crimson Peak is due out in 2015.
