It might just be the English accents and action sequences.

Two British stars, Benedict Cumberbatch and Emma Watson, topped the list of the world's sexiest film stars in a new poll of 50,000 film fans conducted by Empire magazine.

Cumberbatch, 37, of Sherlock and Star Trek: Into Darkness fame, took home the No. 1 spot in the men's category, beating several other actors that have topped similar lists before, according to the UK Independent.

"It puts a bit of spring in your step," Cumberbatch said of the poll results. "it's nice, you swagger a little bit, it's enjoyable. I've punched well above my weight this year...I find it hysterically funny...it's a giggle. I wield it with a massive smile."

Cumberbatch also beat out perennial favorites of the past few decades, including Johnny Depp (who finished 13th), Tom Hardy (17), Brad Pitt (19), Daniel Craig (24), and Tom Cruise (50).

Helping round out the top five hottest men were Marvel actors Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, Thor) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, The Avengers), as well as DC's Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) and Ryan Gosling (The Notebook, Crazy Stupid Love).

No. 6 was Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Rush) followed by Robert Pattinson (Twilight), Michael Fassbender (Prometheus), Hugh Jackman (X-Men), and Bradley Cooper (The Hangover, Silver Linings Playbook).

Cooper and Jackman topped People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive Lists, taking the No. 1 spot in 2011 and 2008 respectively.

Watson, 23, who shot to fame playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, shot to the top spot in the women's category ahead of Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers), Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook), Kristen Stewart (Twilight), Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables, The Dark Knight Rises), Emma Stone (The Amazing Spiderman, Crazy Stupid Love), Mila Kunis (Friends with Benefits), Natalie Portman (Thor), Angelina Jolie (The Tourist) and Zoe Saldana (Columbiana).

Watson was the only Brit to crack the top ten for women.

"It's a great result for British stars...This list also reflects the continuing popularity of superhero movies," James Dyer, the magazine's digital editor, said. "Six of the top ten men have played superheroes and five of the top ten women have appeared in comic-book movies."
