Guardians of the Galaxy is the black sheep of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film is the only one of both Phase One and Phase Two that does not feature a member of the Avengers. Instead, fans will be faced with characters tainted by various degrees of evil, from Gamora (Zoe Saldana) to Nebula (Karen Gillan). However, it appears writer/director James Gunn will mix the darker aspects with just enough humor.

"This is sort of like the antihero hero movie," Saldana said during Comic-Con, according to Movie Hole. "When you meet these characters, they're thieves, they're rebels, they're assassins, and they're going to be learning very big lessons. But because it's a James Gunn interpretation of Guardians, the levity will be very abundant, and that's what keeps it awesome."

Some actor, such as Djimon Hounsou, are not overly concerned about playing up the role for laughs but rather giving equal attention to all aspects of the character.

I'm not really concentrating or thinking about the comedy aspect," Hounsou said of his performance as Korath the Pursuer, according to Screen Crush. ""I'm just thinking about the variety of flavorful work, if you will. And again, the Marvel world always is interesting for anybody, really."

Incase you are worried that the comic book inspired film won't be able to pull at your heartstrings, filming of a recent scene managed to reduced some of the crew to tears.

"Today the performances of [Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, & Sean Gunn] made me tear up," James Gunn tweeted on Saturday. "From my heart, they are all amazing."

It seems like the Star-Lord, Gamora, and Drax the Destroyer are going to have at least one heartfelt moment together.

Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters on Aug. 1, 2014.
