Dr. Henry Wu, played by B.D. Wong, who featured in the 1993 original will be returning in Jurassic World, director Colin Trevorrow revealed in an interview.

Wu was an integral part of the team of scientists funded by John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), InGen's billionaire CEO and the park's creator, in the film.

While speaking with IGN about the fourth installment in the franchise, Trevorrow said that Wong's character was in fact a very important one in the Michael Crichton novelon which the film is based.

In light of the recent confusion about Jeff Goldblum's return, Trevorrow suggested that he was aware of fans anticipating the return of some of the orginal characters. Sam Neill and Goldblum recently stated that they hadn't been offered a part in Jurassic World.

Trevorrow seemed to clarify that the ingenuity of the plot would be rendered stale if the story was written around the main characters of the film and he didn't want to force them in for purely sentimental reasons.

"I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back. They're iconic," he said. "But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons. Jurassic Park isn't about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they'd go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go."

The director then went on to reveal that Wong would be part of this film because his character made sense in the new story.

"This hasn't been announced yet, but BD Wong will be returning as Dr. Henry Wu," he said. "He had a much larger role in the original novel, he was the engineer of this breakthrough in de-extinction. He spent two decades living in Hammond's shadow, underappreciated. We think there's more to his story."

Jurassic World will hit theaters on June 12 2015
