Actress Charlize Theron stepped out sporting a new close-cropped haircut on Sunday.

After weeks of speculation when she wore fedora style men's hats to disguise the buzz cut, the 36 year-old went public with the new hairstyle in Namibia where she is preparing to shoot her next film.

The picture shown on E!Online shows a lock-less Theron smiling for the camera as she carries her adopted son Jackson, both wearing matching red t-shirts.

Theron sheared her blond locks for her role as Furiosa in "Mad Max: Fury Road", the fourth film in the post-apocalyptic series that started in 1979.

At a press junket for "Promotheus", Charlize shared her excitement for shooting her next film:

"I leave in like two and a half weeks and we start shooting I think around mid-July in Namibia. I'm f*cking dying, too, it's been three years. It's time to skin this cat already, so yeah, I'm very excited about it.

"No, it's a really challenging piece of material. I think for me originally when they were like, "Oh, 'Mad Max.'" I was like, "Uh, I'm not going to play the f*cking girl for 'Mad Max.", said Theron. "Then I read it and I was like, 'Oh, 'Mad Max. I feel sorry for you.' That rarely happens. It's just really two great characters. It's not the original "Mad Max." It's the revamped "Mad Max." It's Tom Hardy, who's incredible. So, the whole thing is just exciting, very, very exciting."

Theron is raising her son Jackson alone; she broke up with actor Stuart Townsend after a nine year relationship in 2010.

"You know, I don't think any mother aims to be a single mom. I didn't wish for that, but it happened," she told the Australian magazine Madison. "I always knew I would adopt. Always."

In March Theron announced that she adopted her son. The actress told Ellen DeGeneres on "Ellen" that Jackson was born in America and came home when he was nine days old. This dispelled rumors that Jackson was born in her native country of South Africa.

The former full-time model and ballet dancer has won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award, both for the Best Actress category for her portrayal of lesbian serial killer Aileen Wournos in the 2003 movie "Monster". She has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Theron continues to model occasionally - she is presently featured in ad campaigns for French fashion brand Christian Dior.

Theron has two high profile movies out in theaters now - "Prometheus", a Ridley Scott sci-fi movie and "Snow White and the Huntsman". In "Snow White and the Huntsman" she plays the Evil Queen in the Brothers Grimm fairytale with "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart and "Thor" star Chris Hemingsworth.
