Though the movie was confirmed to be a sure thing months ago, fans of the Magic Mike movie franchise can officially rejoice, as the film has officially begun production in South Carolina.

'Magic Mike 2' Release Date Moved Up

And though the initial director, Stephen Soderbergh, isn't taking that role this time around, he is involved in the film in some capacity-as director of photography, camera operator and film editor, and was the first to confirm the start of filming with a tweet and photograph on Sunday.

"It's ON!" he wrote alongside the photo, which featured a clapboard for the film bearing director Gregory Jacobs' name, as well as the confirmation that the film's official title (for now) is still Magic Mike: XXL, and revealed that the film is currently shooting in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Alex Pettyfer Shows Signs He Won't Be Returning To 'Magic Mike' Sequel

Very few specific details have been revealed about the highly-anticipated sequel, beyond the fact that the men from the first film will be taking a road trip to a stripper convention-something Matt Bomer (who is returning) confirmed actually exists when appearing on Ellen DeGeneres' show earlier this summer.

"Only the best of the best make it. It's a strip-off to the death," he said. "It is a stripper convention-I can imagine if you lock those doors, things can get a little rowdy."

And while Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Adam Rodriguez and Channing Tatum have all confirmed their returns, there has still been no official word on the return of Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey or Cody Horn's characters from the first film. But fans hoping that the actors will be spotted around town as the movie films, confirming their roles in the process, will be disappointed, as Myrtle Beach TV station WBTW reports that though filming is underway, the actors won't be present in town until at least October, leaving speculation about who would be involved still open.

Magic Mike: XXL opens July 1, 2015.
