Larry Wachowski, one half of the famous film directing team "The Wachowski Brothers," has changed his name from "Larry" to "Lana" after undergoing a sex change operation.

The former Wachowski Brother, known for directing "The Matrix" film series, is the first film director to come out publicly as transgender.

The New York Post reports that Wachowski came out in a trailer for the upcoming "Cloud Atlas."

The 47-year-old is wearing a dress and pink dreadlocks in her hair and announces, "Hi, I'm Lana." She also confirmed her transition during the interview.

The trailer shows Wachowski sitting with thef film's co-directors -her brother Andy and Tom Tykwer, known for the indie hit "Run Lola Run."

Lana Wachowski is not the first transgender to come out publicly. Chaz Bono, whose mother is singing icon Cher, became a contestant on "Dancing with the Stars" after his sex change operation. A transgender has also competed on Tyra Bank's reality show "America's Next Top Model." In 2008 Thomas Beatie became known as "the pregnant man" after claiming he was the first man to have a baby. Beatie sat down with Barbara Walters in an exclusive interview to discuss having his second child. He and his girlfriend now have three children, all carried by him.

The Wachowskis are known for creating "The Matrix" series ("The Matrix," "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions.") They have also written comic books for Marvel Comics.

Their latest film "Cloud Atlas" stars Tom Hanks, Hugh Grant, Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock, and Susan Sarandon. They play characters who switch names, genders and timelines throughout the story, according to E Online. It is a film adaptation of a sci-fi novel of the same name by British author David Mitchell, and is scheduled for release on October 26, 2012.
