Universal Studios has replaced the idea of a "Snow White and the Huntsman" sequel starring Kristen Stewart with a solo spinoff film spotlighting Chris Hemsworth instead.

The Hollywood Reporter reported on Aug. 14 that sources claimed Stewart will not be returning for the follow-up movie in the franchise and any plans for a sequel to "Snow White and the Huntsman" - which starred Stewart, Hemsworth and Charlize Theron - has been scratched from production.

The original plan, according to sources, was to make two films featuring the "Snow White" character and a third film spinning-off the Huntsman and his story. The follow-up was to circulate around Stewart's character but that idea has been put aside and now Hemsworth will star in his own film about his Huntsman character.

Stewart will not return for any of the franchise's future films.

"The studio is currently exploring options to continue the franchise," a Universal spokeswoman said, according to Yahoo! News.

The site also mentioned that it is unclear whether the film's director, Rupert Sanders, will return for a follow-up film and that the screenwriter for "Snow White" has also been released from his contract, since a second film will take a turn in a new direction.

The news comes in light of the cheating scandal that followed Stewart, 22, and the Sanders, 41. The actress was long time girlfriend to "Twilight" co-star Robert Pattinson, with rumors that he even was considering marriage. However, photos emerged of Stewart and Sanders, a married man with two children, kissing in various locations in Los Angeles. Their infidelity might have been the reason for the change in production plans, though the two have not been officially linked but the studio or the stars themselves.

According to Yahoo! News, Universal did not respond with a comment as to why Stewart will not continue to be involved in the franchise's future projects. Sander's involvement in the spinoff, if there will be any, has not be announced yet but a source close to the production claimed that he will return to direct the Huntsman project, according to the Reporter.
