Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger are getting married and the couple shared the details of their relationship in an exclusive interview in Hello! Canada magazine.

In the cover story, Kroeger admits that he popped the question after a six-month courtship and "feels like the luckiest person alive."

The couple approached the magazine to announce their engagement and share photographs of the singer's blinding 14-carat engagement ring. The 37-year-old reveals how he popped the question to the 27-year-old.

"It happened in their recording studio," Alison Eastwood, editor-in-chief of Hello! Canada told Calgary Herald. "She was scrapbooking and he added a page to the scrapbook, and the page said: 'Will you marry me?"'

Eastwood said Kroeger "of the two of them...sounded more romantic" when the couple sat down with her for the interview.

"He's totally besotted with Avril, and who can blame him?" she added. "But if you see the photographs in the magazine ... he's just beaming from ear to ear. We have never seen Chad Kroeger look so happy."

Kroeger and Lavigne have been working together on her fifth album in Los Angeles. The couple gushed to the editor that they started off as friends in Paris but quickly developed feelings for each other.

"I knew I was falling for her. It was incredibly powerful and something I'll never forget," Kroeger told Hello! Canada.

"He makes me laugh every day," said Lavigne. "He takes care of me in every way and is extremely attentive."

The two have yet to announce a wedding date but Lavigne told Hello! Canada that "she has the whole thing planned out and that it will be a huge celebration."

Kroeger's band Nickelback expressed their sentiments on Twitter. "Congratulations Avril Lavigne and Chad!" the band tweeted.

The couple's engagement trended on the social media site when fans retweeted the news; they dubbed the couple "Chavril".

People reported that Kroeger proposed to the "Complicated" singer on Aug. 8.

"They have the same values and really understand each other," a family source told the magazine. "They complement each other and are so happy." 

This will be the second marriage for Lavigne. She filed for divorce from rock musician Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 in 2009 after three years of marriage and has also dated reality TV star Brody Jenner.

The marriage to Lavigne will be Kroeger's first. The issue featuring the Canadian rock musicians wil arrive on newsstands on Thursday, Aug. 23.
