In support of the homeless, legendary actor Kirk Douglas has doubled his original pledge to Skid Row in Los Angeles. To the surprise of his wife Anne Douglas, the 95-year-old upped his donation to $10 million dollars on Thursday.

According to the Sacramento Bee, Douglas and his wife initially announced in July that they would pledge $5 million in order to continue their allegiance to the Anne Douglas Center for Women at the Los Angeles Mission.

The president of the Mission, Herb Smith, spoke at the LA Mission Gala about Douglas' additional pledge.

"This wonderful legacy will make it possible to help individuals create their own legacy. It will open great opportunities to begin to solve one of the more intractable problems facing society. We are beyond grateful for the support the Douglas family has shown the Los Angeles Mission."

On Wednesday Douglas had presented Anne with an award at the respective event for her dedication with the shelter and said that she never stopped caring.

"Thank you for teaching me that caring is sharing."

Upon tying the knot some 57 years ago, Douglas stated that Anne told him she was motivated to make a difference in the United States. She then thanked her husband for his "tremendous generosity, which will allow my vision of helping the homeless men and women of Los Angeles."

Although he is big-hearted, Douglas had cemented himself as a top tough guy actor in the 1949 film "Champion." He went on to build himself a career donning similar roles. From that point on, he reportedly made a decision to be a successful star.
