The Daily Planet is going to be short of one super employee.

Clark Kent, the alter ego of Superman, is quitting his reporting job at the Daily Planet in the latest "Superman" comic.

The latest edition of "Superman" issue No. 13 will be released Wednesday with the big news of Kent's resignation.

So why has the man of steel felt the need to get out of his career?

One of the reasons is the declining standards of the industry itself as the once respected paper starts turning into a generic tabloid.

But writer Scott Lobdell says it also goes deeper than that.

"This is really what happens when a 27-year-old guy is behind a desk and he has to take instruction from a larger conglomerate with concerns that aren't really his own," Lobdell told USA Today. "Superman is arguably the most powerful person on the planet, but how long can he sit at his desk with someone breathing down his neck and treating him like the least important person in the world?"

There's also the personal issue of Clark Kent's broken marriage with longtime love Lois Lane that was partially related to an affair with Wonder Woman.

The writer commented on the future of Clark Kent's return to journalism:  "He is more likely to start the next Huffington Post or the next Drudge Report than he is to go find someone else to get assignments or draw a paycheck from."

Superman will be returning to the big screen in "Man of Steel" starring Henry Cavill of "The Tudors." The latest adaptation is being helmed by "300" director Zack Syner and produced by Christopher Nolan of "The Dark Knight Rises". "Man of Steel" hits theaters June 2013.
