Chris Brown made a bold move when he released the teaser for his upcoming documentary that details the rise and fall of his career, including his assault against his then girlfriend superstar Rihanna that marked a huge turning point. But did Rihanna know that the incident that also altered her career forever would be discussed?

Word is, she was not only aware of it, but gave Brown the go-ahead to share his truth on it in Welcome To My Life: The Official Chris Brown Documentary.

“She knew about the documentary,” one insider told Hollywood Life Monday. “Chris told her he was considering a documentary and that he would be talking about that nightmare night.”

Brown was convicted of brutally assaulting Rihanna in early February of 2009.

“At first, she was surprised he wanted to go public with this, she cautioned him that he had to be mentally, and emotionally prepared to go back and relive it. However, he reassured her that this was something good, something he wanted to do.”

As for Rihanna, she will most likely have to relive the incident as well. But it seems she’s also ready for the aftermath of the documentary.

“She supported him and still supports him. She’s proud of how far he’s come and understands his reason for going forward, protecting [his daughter] Royalty. Chris has her blessings.”

Usher, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx and more star in the documentary as well.

It has not been given a release date yet.
