Emma Watson learned how to pole-dance for her acting role in the upcoming movie, The Bling Ring.

"I did learn to pole dance for the film, and I have a small pole dancing scene," Watson told British GQ. "But it's not a performance for anyone else, it's just me messing around with my friends. I took lessons."

The actress who played the famous Hermione Granger for 10 years experimented with a different kind of role as she prepared for Sofia Coppola’s new movie.

Watson practiced for the movie while studying at Oxford University. The actress, who will be 23 on April 15, is finishing up her degree at Brown University this semester.

"I was incredibly ungraceful at first. The upper-body strength and the core strength you need to do it gracefully is crazy," she said, according to the the British GQ report. "I take my hat off to the women who can do it. You have to be incredibly strong."

She will play the role of one of the teens who robbed the homes of celebrities like Paris Hilton and Orlando Bloom. Watson pointed out that almost everything about her role was a challenge. She was attracted to the project because she didn't want to limit the public in viewing her as the kind of post- Harry Potter roles that she's offered.

The movie is set to be released in June 2013.
