Just shy of one month after he shocked everyone by winning the election and becoming the next man to take control of the Oval Office, Donald Trump has won another contest and title-TIME Person of the Year.

The magazine chose Trump because of what he accomplished this year, and because even if people don't agree with him, they believe it's hard to deny what he's inspired this year, especially since he dominated conversation throughout 2016, and now will have the chance to prove himself in 2017.

"For reminding America that demagoguery feeds on despair and that truth is only as powerful as the trust in those who speak it, for empowering a hidden electorate by mainstreaming its furies and live-streaming its fears, and for framing tomorrow's political culture by demolishing yesterday's, Donald Trump is TIME's 2016 Person of the Year," the magazine wrote about their decision.

Trump was on the shortlist for those being considered for the top honor, which also included Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, Democratic Nominee Hillary Clinton, CRISPR Scientists, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Nigel Farage, The Flint Whistleblowers, Beyonce, Narendra Modi, Vladimir Putin and Mark Zuckerberg.

Last year's honor went to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Of course, much like his election to president, the news that Trump was awarded the honor has caused controversy on social media, with some decrying the decision because of things he has said which have led to the fears many have about him being president, while others have poked fun at the fact that vote recounts are being conducted in certain states by Jill Stein, and to a lesser extent, Hillary Clinton, after it was revealed that Clinton won the popular vote by more than 2.5 million votes overall, yet still lost the electoral college.

Some have also alleged that his winning the honor is also another parallel to Hitler's rise in Germany back in the 40s, as he too was once the magazine's Person of the Year.
