Joss Whedon sat down with Jimmy Fallon to discuss his new film, Much Ado About Nothing, and to elaborate on some rumors surrounding the 2015 release of The Avengers 2.

Last week Avengers fans were treated to the news that the second installment from Marvel would feature the sibling duo of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch. On Late Night, Whedon discussed his decision to bring in new characters for the upcoming film.

"I've already said that we're going to have a brother/sister team, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who were great mainstays of The Avengers when I was reading the comics as a kid," the director said.

Beyond the influence of these characters' exploits with the Avengers in his memories, Whedon is also looking to keep the film fresh and give the audience some variety. He wants it to be more than just "Hulk Smash!"

"One of the problems I had on the first one was, everybody basically had punchy powers. 'I can hit,' 'I can also hit,'" Whedon said. "But coming into the second one, Quicksilver got super speed. Scarlet Witch can weave spells and a little telekinesis, get inside your head."

Whedon didn't drop any hints about casting for the two roles. Although Evan Peters was just cast for the role of Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sci-fi guru did not mention if he was planning on making a similar decision.

However, there have been rumors that Saoirse Ronan may be tapped to portray the Scarlet Witch. In an interview with The Mary Sue, the Violet & Daisy actress said she would be more than willing to take on the challenge.

"I love Joss and I love those films, and I love his handle on them and how he portrayed these kinds of superheroes," Ronan said. "I think it's very different from what anyone else has done. So yeah, I'd love to be in it."

Fans are looking for Whedon to make a big casting reveal at this year's San Diego ComicCon.
