Ryan Phillippe’s ex-girlfriend has taken legal action against the actor with pretty serious accusations.

Elsie Hewitt filed a complaint against Phillippe Monday with claims that he physically abused her, PEOPLE reported Tuesday. He is accused of kicking Hewitt, as well as punching her and throwing her down the stairs according to the site. She submitted photographs of bruises on her body.

The incident allegedly happened after a party around the 4th of July. Phillippe left the event before Hewitt did after “being ignored [by Hewitt].” Hewitt headed to Phillippe’s house along with a friend and packed her things. Apparently the reported physical incident occurred in the early hours of Independence Day.

An insider told the magazine that Phillippe is innocent.

“Ryan did not a lay a hand on her,” they said. “He wants to clear all of this up and will.”

Still, the accusations don’t end there. Hewitt, is a model for the Guess clothing line, said that she witnessed Phillippe, “repeatedly abusing a panoply of legal and illegal drugs, including without limitation: cocaine, ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms, and steroids…”

The claim continues with, “Phillippe increasingly combined these drugs with excessive alcohol consumption and often exhibited symptoms attendant of poly drug and alcohol abuse, including mood swings and bouts of anger.”

But one insider said Hewitt was the aggressive one after their July split.

“Elsie showed up to Ryan’s house uninvited and under the influence a few days after he had broken up with her,” they said. “She physically attacked Ryan, caused a scene and refused to leave his home. As she was removed from the premises, she claim she fell and injured herself.”

The insider went on to say, “There is no restraining order presently in place of any kind. At the time it happened, there was a temporary which was terminated only a few days after. She has since tried to see revenge and fame by sending glamour shots of herself to media outlets with a false story of domestic violence.”

Things got even uglier as Hewitt’s lawyer, Keith Fink, shut down claims that she took the legal action for fame and money. He said Hewitt had a name for herself and Phillippe was “just married to a famous person.”

“She’s not going to take a dime, I am not making a dime, [if she wins the case] the money is going to a domestic violence charity,” he said. “Did she make up the bruises on her body?”

Both parties have spoken with the City Attorney for the ongoing investigation.
