Kelly Ripa is creating headlines once more following her "extreme poverty" comment regarding her son's living condition.

During a guesting in the "The Jimmy Kimmel Live" Tuesday night, Ripa made a joke that didn't go well with a lot of people.

She spoke regarding her son, Michael Consuelos, who lives on his own in Brooklyn for college. The 22-year-old attends New York University and according to his mom, he's learning to carry on his own like several different millennials.

Ripa joked that her son enjoys his freedom but doesn't like paying his own rent.

"He's extremely poor. I don't assume he has experienced extreme poverty like now," Kelly Ripa exclaimed.

The 49-year-old talk show host even joked that his son is looking forward to a $20 gift from his grandparents to pay for his electricity.

"He's experiencing being a real adult," Ripa added.

After her "extreme poverty" statement, she explained that her son is paying his own rent for the first time in his life. The "Live with Kelly and Ryan" co-host then received a great deal of hate from social media, with one commenter saying that Ripa is "so disconnected to 1% remaining of the society."

One tweet said, "I have lived with no food no electricity and have slept on the streets, shelters and on the beach. Your 'joke' isn't funny."

Another one stated, "Maybe you ought to truly stomach NOTHING and learn what poorness really is."

On Wednesday, Ripa responded within the comment section of a photograph of her and her son on Instagram, writing that her son is in his first non-parent sponsored apt with roommates.

"I'm used to getting a lot of slack because people love to have fake outrage over something they didn't see. They only read a headline and wag their tired fingers," Ripa exclaimed in the comments.

Ripa then later revealed that she and her husband didn't grow old privileged.

"We work and because of that we expect our children to as well. And the fact that a pack of fools need to b---- about this, I say let 'em."

Luckily, there are those that came to her defense, with one commenter praising Ripa for raising her child a "hard worker." Another commenter commended the host for not apologizing and raising children who shouldn't expect everything will be handed to them.

Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, worked so hard to be where they are now. So it is only expected that the values should be taught to their kids, Michael, Lola and Joaquin.
