David Brenner, popularly known as an Academy Award-winning film editor whose works include several blockbuster films, has passed away at the age of 59.

According to Deadline, the tragic news was confirmed by Jon Landau, the editor's longtime collaborator who worked in the Avatar sequels.

At the time of this writing, his cause of death remains a mystery, and his family has yet to release an official statement.

Brenner started in the film industry in 1986 when he became an assistant editor for "Salvador." He later worked on the movies "Platoon" and "Wall Street" before getting promoted to the co-editor position.

He collaborated with Joe Hutshing for "Talk Radio," Their professional relationship grew as they worked on a few other movies.

One of their works, "Born on the Fourth of July," earned an Academy Award for Best Film Editing.

The film editor went on to collaborate with more well-known personalities in the industries, including Zac Synder for "Justice League," "Man of Steel," "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Rise of an Empire," and more.

In addition to the abovementioned movies, some of his notable works were "World Trade Center," "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," "Heaven and Earth," and many more.

Per the outlet, James Cameron and Lawren Kasanoff's Lightstorm Entertainment created a GoFundMe page not only to help the late film editor's family with their finances but also to let his wife Amber and their children know "how many other lives David touched."

"David will live in our hearts & memories, and he will forever be a part of our Avatar Family," the page description reads.

At the time of this writing, the fundraising has already received $46,335 out of their $100,000 goal.

Cameron also took to his official Twitter account to pay tribute to his good pal.

"We have lost a very dear member of the #AvatarFamily, David Brenner, an editor extraordinaire on the Avatar sequels," he wrote.

"Our hearts go out to his wife Amber and their children Annie, Haider and Sasha. His talent, compassion and friendship will be truly missed," he went on.

Fans also took to the reply section to express their grief, with one supporter writing, "I am so sorry for your loss and will hold Amber and his children in my prayers for comfort and strength."
