Maya Hawke, her daughter, is a rising celebrity in Hollywood. But Uma Thurman is far from being a stage mom to her daughter with Ethan Hawke. In fact, if she had her way, she would not want her daughter to join showbizness.

Admittedly, Uma Thurman first had misgivings about the 23-year-old pursuing a career as an actress.

Uma, 51, revealed in an interview with Access that she was apprehensive about Maya embarking on an acting career owing to her 'sensitive' temperament.

She said so not because she did not beleive in what her daughter can do or because she could not see that this is truly her passion, but because she's a protective mom and knows how sensitive her daughter is. This sensitivity can mean having a hard time when the career entails "so much public facing."

"'I think any protective parent would be anxious for their child to sort of become to go into public arena, not because they want to be in the public arena but because they're so creative. I just wish they'd find any other way to be creative," she shared.

But alas, she cannot stop her daughter, because "it's what she had to do."

However, it was Maya's acting ability that convinced her otherwise.

Uma also didn't have to give her daughter any advise on pursuing a career in show industry.

'I think she knew more than me already,' Uma said when asked what advice she offered her.

Maya has a lengthy filmography that includes appearances in "Little Women," "Mainstream," and "Stranger Things," where she has played Robin Buckley since 2019.

She previously said that her parents, Uma and Ethan Hawke, were worried about her acting future owing to the 'public' nature of show business.

According to her, they were frightened of the public life aspect of acting and its complications. They also attempted to keep me away from performing, which corroborated what Uma just revealed.

"They wanted to ensure I had a strong enough backbone, my own passion for it and work ethic. They didn't want to cart me along every red carpet or have me do bit-parts in their movies. Once I was old enough, and it was clear they were my choices, they were very supportive," she explained.

Maya is also a singer, with her debut album, "Blush," being released in 2020.

Maya is the daughter of Uma and Hawke, who wed in 1998 and divorced in 2005. They also have a 20-year-old son, Levon Thurman-Hawke.
