Eddie Murphy has never been shy about taking on roles that showcase his sharp ability to embody a character using prostheses and wigs. Everything from the Coming To America films to Klumps in The Nutty Professor has had the comedian become some of the most iconic characters of his career.

Though it wasn't until Dolemite Is My Name that we saw Murphy take on a real person, namely Rudy Ray Moore, proving he can walk that line of comedy and drama in the 2019 Netflix biopic.

Murphy is doing it again, this time playing the Godfather of Funk George Clinton, creator of the renowned musical group Parliament-Funkadelic. According to Deadline, this Eddie Murphy passion project has already secured the rights to his story, as well as Clinton's blessing.

The film will be produced by John Davis and Catherine Davis, along with Murphy, through their company Davis Entertainment.

This will be the second film in a three-picture deal Murphy has signed with Amazon, the first being Coming 2 America, which did well for the streaming service.

Eddie Murphy has been having a resurgence in recent years, with a full plate of projects on the horizon, including the Netflix film You People, directed by Kenya Barris and co-starring Jonah Hill, as well as the fourth installment of his popular Beverly Hills Cop franchise, which is set to begin this summer.

It's going to be a trip to see Murphy play Clinton, with his outlandishly entertaining on-stage persona and wild costumes. But if anyone can mimic the man himself, Murphy seems like the one to do it.
