Jim Carrey has announced that he will be retiring from acting after his upcoming film Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Jim Carrey is one of the most iconic, hilarious, versatile actors of our time. He is known for his phenomenally outlandish physical comedy, as well as his surprising knack for more serious roles.

He is flexible, both in strength and ability, and this range has made him a delight to watch on our screens.

However, the star has announced that he will be taking some time - perhaps permanent time - off of the screen.

The Yes Man star recently spoke out, saying that his days on the screen are numbered. According in an interview with Access Hollywood, Carrey announced that the decision to step away from the screen is in preference of a simpler life. He shared that he is, "fairly serious" about his retirement. This comment was made after the interviewer didn't believe his initial proclamation. He shared:

"I really like my quiet life, and I really like putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life, and I feel like - and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exits - I have enough. I've done enough. I am enough."

These beautifully powerful words spoken by Carrey demonstrate a humanity that is not always apparent from those of celebrity status. Even in the throes of immense fame, the star has been one of the few to be constantly reflecting inwards. Instead of seeking validation from the world, he has remained in tune with himself and his needs for his life.

Jim Carrey is an undeniable inspiration, and if this truly is his retirement from the screen, we will miss him.
