Thor offered a shocking and heartbreaking update through the trailer of the upcoming flick, "Thor: Love and Thunder."

The superhero will soon tell his tale again through the fourth film of his franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On Monday, Marvel Entertainment's YouTube channel dropped a one-minute and thirty-second trailer of "Thor: Love and Thunder" on the platform, showing how the titular character would be replaced soon.

The video, which flaunts Guns N' Roses' hit classic, "Sweet Child O' Mine," presents Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as the God of Thunder. But aside from confirming that Thor is ripped once again after having a dad body in "Avengers: Endgame," the points that revealed he would soon retire and get replaced shocked fans.

Thor Retired, Replaced As MCU Superhero

The video starts with Thor running and growing from a boy to a man.

"These hands were once used for battle, now they're but humble tools for peace. I need to figure out exactly who I am," he said. "I'm going to choose my own path. Live in the moment. My superhero-ing days are over."

"Thor: Love and Thunder" is seemingly about the superhero finding himself again, and it might not show its usual epic battles and action scenes. Still, an unseen enemy appears in front of him before Star Lord gives him advice about his power.

Thor looks devastated again as he reminisces the death of Loki, his parents, Black Widow, and Iron Man. His feelings worsen as he fails to defeat Thanos in "Avengers: Infinity War." The hero abandons the settlement of New Asgard under Valkyrie's rule before starting his journey with the guardians.

Elsewhere in the clip, he starts shedding his blip weight again by doing workouts while donning a trucker hat that has the text, "stronger avenger." The same trailer excites fans even more by showing Russell Crowe's Zeus, marking his MCU debut.

But the biggest moment yet in the trailer is its ending, when Natalie Portman's Jane Foster is introduced as Mighty Thor. This confirmed Natalie Portman's revelation during her interview with espnW Summit. At that time, she confirmed that her character would finally get to hold the Mjolnir.

"Do you get to hold the hammer? And be like, "Look at me now boys!" Julie Foudy asked, to which the actress said that the retired soccer star "guessed the script right." In addition, the creators of "Thor: Love and Thunder" confirmed during the Comic-Con 2019 that the actress would not only come back as Foster but also as Mighty Thor.

"Thor: Love and Thunder" premieres on July 8.
