The Gods are back, and they might be in trouble!

Yesterday, Marvel released its first full-length trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, director Taika Waititi's follow-up to 2017's Thor: Ragnarok. In addition to seeing Thor get back into fighting shape after going full dad-bod in Avengers: Endgame, we also got our first glimpse of Christian Bale's introduction to the MCU as Gorr the God Butcher.

Set to 80's music, we have Waititi's Korg narrating Thor's comeback to god-dom and superhero-dom - only to have his triumphant return interrupted by the appearance of his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman.

In the eight years, seven months, and six days that Thor and Jane haven't seen each other, it seems that Jane's become a bit of superhero herself, gaining the ability to pick up Thor's hammer Mjølnir.

Meanwhile, as Thor deals with running into his ex, we are also introduced to Bale's Gorr the God Butcher with this ominous quote:

"The only ones who Gods care about is themselves. So this is my vow: All Gods will die."

However, despite the chilling message, the trailer still ends on a light note, with Thor being held captive in front of none other than Russell Crowe's Zeus.

As Zeus attempts to reveal who Thor really is by removing his disguise, he flicks a bit too hard, removing all of Thor's clothes, the sudden exposure causing the maidens surrounding Zeus to faint. (Same.)

Thor: Love and Thunder is Chris Hemsworth's fourth outing in a solo film as Thor, and also the second to directed by Waititi. While Thor: Ragnarok was characterized by Waititi's idiosyncratic humor and the cast's improvisation (that also contained surprise post-colonial and anti-imperialist themes,) it'll be interesting to see what Thor: Love and Thunder will bring to the table this time.

Thor: Love and Thunder lands in theaters on July 8, 2022.
