Disney+'s new series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on the popular young adult book series written by Rick Riordan, found its leads not long ago when they cast Walker Scobell as Percy, Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. But news from the production is that they have cast five more of the characters for the show.

According to Variety, Virginia Kull (Big Little Lies), Timm Sharp (On The Verge), Glynn Turman (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom), Megan Mullally (Will and Grace), and Jason Mantzoukas (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) have been signed on to play both gods and humans. The show is about a young boy named Percy who finds out that he is part god and must attend a secret camp for other children of deities. After being blamed for stealing Zeus's lightning bolt, what follows is a wild adventure to find the real thief and bring peace to Olympus.

The role of Percy's mother Sally will be played by Kull, while Timm Sharp is cast to be his obnoxious stepfather Gabe Ugliano. The hilarious Jason Mantzukas will be taking on Mr. D, or Dionysus, the head of Camp Half Blood, and Mullally is Mrs. Dodds who is not only Percy's teacher but also one of the servants of Hades. Rounding out the cast is Glynn Turman as Chiron, a trainer, and mentor to the campers who happens to be a centaur.

It is great to see that this beloved book series is getting the treatment it deserves after the two failed attempts it took at the big screen, which left fans rather irate seeing as similar series such as Harry Potter were handled far more deftly.

There is no release date at this time as the series is in pre-production, but you can expect Percy Jackson and the Olympians to stream on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
