Many fans and celebrities rejoiced for Rebel Wilson after she came out online and announced that she currently has a girlfriend. However, not long after introducing her new lover to the world, the actress received many criticisms.

According to ET Online, journalist Andrew Hornery published an opinion piece via The Sydney Morning Herald where he alleged that the "Senior Year" star was given a deadline to come out and be publicly open with her sexuality before the publication would write a story about it.

Another journalist Kate Doak doubled down on Hornery's piece by taking to Twitter.

"So apparently it wasn't @RebelWilson's choice to come out... The @smh/@theage have admitted to giving her a heads up 2 days in advance that they were going to "out" her. What's worse, openly gay men at the Sydney Morning Herald were involved in this," she wrote.

The "Pitch Perfect" actress broke her silence about the "forced to come out" allegations, writing, "Thanks for your comments, it was a very hard situation but trying to handle it with grace."

The journalist also pointed out that the publication admitted in their article that they emailed Wilson's team to comment on her new relationship before publishing a single word.

In recent updates, editor Bevan Shields made a public statement regarding the matter, saying the story amassed attention and he wanted to offer the Herald's view on the issue.

He mentioned that saying the Herald "outed" the actress is wrong as Wilson made the decision to disclose her relationship status herself.

Rebel Wilson Introduces Girlfriend to the World

The recent "outing" fiasco comes a few days after Rebel Wilson introduced her girlfriend to the world.

Taking to her Instagram account amid the celebration of pride month, the actress shared a picture of herself with her new lover.

"I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince...but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess," she captioned the post.

The photo amassed more than a million likes and thousands of comments from fans and celebrities expressing their support.

This was the first time Wilson became public with her sexuality.

As of this writing, the actress has not confirmed how long she'd been dating Romona Agruma, but they were spotted getting out of the same car on Super Bowl Sunday.

They also went on public events and red carpets together in the past.
