Kate Middleton and Prince William joined King Charles and Queen Camilla at the annual Festival of Remembrance, but they reportedly made sure the spotlight was focused on the monarch and his wife.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, the monarch, and the queen made an appearance at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the Festival of Remembrance Saturday Night. Middleton arrived wearing a long-sleeved beautiful black dress with her signature curly blow dry. She accessorized with Queen Elizabeth II's three-strand pearl necklace and red poppy. Prince William looked dapper in his dark suit.

Body language expert Judi James, author of "Bodytalk: The Skills of Positive," weighed in on their gestures during the event. Based on his observation, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall did not intend to steal King Charles and Queen Camilla's thunder.

"With her hands folded in front of her torso, the message seems to be that the couple intend to avoid upstaging the King and Queen at this event with this slightly more self-effacing body language," James told The Sun.

The expert also noted Middleton's "powerful homage" to the late monarch by wearing the latter's necklace. According to James, pearls are not the Princess of Wales' personal style, but the item was a signature statement piece linked to the late royal.

Middleton's plain black dress reportedly gave the necklace a dramatic effect, and it was a moving gesture, showing how much she loved and missed her grandmother-in-law. The sight was also reportedly a sign of the monarchy's continuity.

"The combination of Kate and the late Queen's pearls make a very powerful message of continuity and combined forces here as she stands to the front of the royal party with her head held up and a very solemn facial expression while William clasps his hands in front of his torso and tilts his head in an expression of silent sympathy and regret," James added.

"Kate's pose and the symbolic pearls here make her look like the late Queen's appointed her as future Queen and female head of the Firm."

Queen Elizabeth and Middleton shared a close bond. Joe Little, the managing editor of Majesty Magazine, previously told Us Weekly that the late monarch considered Prince William's wife "a safe pair of hands" and "The Queen has great trust in Kate."
