Prince Edward and Prince William reportedly share a tight-knit relationship, strengthened by their proximity in Windsor, where both royals call home.

With Prince Andrew effectively sidelined from royal affairs, it's improbable that the prince will feature prominently in William's circle of advisors.

While William, 41, is undoubtedly groomed for his forthcoming responsibilities, akin to his father's tenure leading up to the passing of the late Queen, he's bound to seek guidance on matters of protocol as he steps into his role as monarch.

Edward, already a respected member of the royal family, has shouldered numerous responsibilities in his capacity as the Duke of Edinburgh. He's stepped in admirably for the King as His Majesty takes a step back from public engagements to focus on his recovery from cancer.

Hello! magazine's royal correspondent Danielle Stacey described how "The Duke of Edinburgh has been a huge support to the King since the start of his reign, particularly in recent months, following Charles' cancer diagnosis. Both Edward and Sophie have stepped up their engagements and represented the King at the historic parade for the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale earlier this month."

"The couple conduct their duties across the UK and overseas, with Edward visiting South Africa, Uganda and the island of St Helena, this year alone. It was also noted that Edward told his brother, 'I know you've got it,' in a touching behind-the-scenes moment at the coronation," she continued. "I think it's also significant that Edward was one of the few royals to join the King and Queen at the Easter Sunday service in Windsor - Charles' most significant public outing since his diagnosis."

Prince Edward, 60, is the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and the youngest sibling of King Charles III.
