One Direction is on top of the box office with their documentary, This Is Us.

The film has already earned $8.9 million since its release. On Thursday, it's opening night, the movie earned $2.7 million from its showings. These numbers encourage experts to presume that the movie will make approximately $25 million by the end of the four-day weekend. These are the greatest opening numbers for any of director Morgan Spurlock's films.

If predictions are accurate, One Direction's documentary will gross more money on opening weekend than The Jonas Brothers' The 3D Concert Experience ($19 million) and Katy Perry's Part Of Me ($25 million). Yet, it won't out gross Michael Jackson's This Is It, which was released in 2009 and debuted with $32 million.

One Direction's movie follows the five members - Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Harry Styles - and their rise to fame from U.K.'s The X Factor three years ago.

One Direction Wins Best Song Of The Summer At The VMAs

"I don't think you've ever had so much access to a band who are as big as this as you've ever seen," the group's music video director, Ben Winston told NY1. "We go home with their families. We see them backstage in dressing rooms. We see them on tour buses."

The movie's lead single, Best Song Ever, won the award for Best Song of The Summer at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. One Direction also showed off some acting skills when the song's video was released in July. In the clip, Horan and Tomlinson act as snobbish Hollywood executives while Malik plays a female assistant. Styles is a marketer and Payne is a choreographer named Leeroy. The clip has already garnered almost 90 million views on YouTube since its release last month.
