The last interview Fast and the Furious 7 director James Wan gave before Paul Walker's death will be featured in The Hollywood Reporter's Jan. 3 issue,

Talking to the publication, Wan spoke about the differences working on the 2014 film compared to his past work. The interview, conducted in mid-November, also featured Wan speaking about the big set pieces and budgets he was working with on Fast & Furious, a departure from other films he has worked on.

Wan made a bigger name for himself this summer when his two modestly budgeted films, The Conjuring and Insidious: Chapter 2, went on to be summer hits.

"Compared to my past work, the set pieces in this film are incredibly out there...it's amazing that they're so huge, and it's an amazing playground for me to play in," Wan said.

Wan also spoke about his pacing this year, another radical departure from his usual way of doing things.

"I try to keep the number of projects I'm involved in down to one per year," the 36-year-old director said. "But that wasn't the case this year--it's been pretty incredible going at this pace."

The comments were made before Wan lost one his leading actors in a fiery car crash on Nov. 30. Now it seems as if Wan and his crew are trying to figure out how the franchise will move ahead without Walker, who played one of the key roles in the thrillers.

Fast and Furious 7 writer Chris Morgan is reportedly reworking the script to incorporate the death of Walker's character, Brian O'Conner. Walker had the same lead role in five of the six films part of the Fast franchise.

Walker died on Nov. 30 in a car crash in Santa Clarita, Calif. He was the passenger in a car being driven by his friend, race car driver Roger Rodas, who also died in the accident. The speeding car hit a tree and instantly burst into flames, causing both the actor and Rodas to die on the spot. The actor was headed home after attending a charity event for his foundation, Reach Out Worldwide.
