David Letterman may have spoiled the end of "The Dark Knight Rises" during an interview with Anne Hathaway (who stars as Catwoman) on the "Late Show" Thursday night.

[SPOILER ALERT!]

Letterman sparked outrage on the web after he said: "I saw this movie, the Batman movie," Letterman said. "And in the end, Batman is dead."

While Letterman may not have been saying the truth, Hathaway's reaction seemed to hint that he is right.

First there was an awkward silence then she said.

"Dave!...I just want you to know the wrath that you have just invited onto yourself. Chris [Nolan], I had no part in it, I'm sorry."

"You know that's a whole thing, right," she added.

Some readers were outraged that Letterman spoiled the movie.

"Letterman is such a clueless old fool" user joemartin1296 wrote on a message board.

"Dave has 'OLD TIMERS' disease. It happens to everyone," user Mad Hatter 1 wrote in another board online.

The end of the movie has stirred a lot of buzz with fans wondering if Batman will live or die.

The writer of the film, David Goyer, told Empire Magazine that after seeing the ending he "got a complete lump in my throat."

The film's director Christopher Nolan said what Goyer meant was that he was happy about the conclusion of the story.

Nolan has been very reluctant to talk about the ending and said none of the cast and crew members would reveal the secrets.

"I don't really want to talk about the ending of the film," he told MTV News in an interview published Monday. "We wouldn't want to give that away."

"Everybody talking on behalf of the film knows they don't want to ruin anything for the audience, so they're all trying to be careful," Nolan told MTV.

"The Dark Knight Rises" debuts July 20 but movie critics are already raving about it.

During a preview screening of the movie for the press and critics, the film got a standing ovation, according to movie critic Lauren Hiestand.

Fans will figure out the ending in seven more days.
