A-list actor Robert Downey Jr. reportedly sustained an ankle injury on the set of "Iron Man 3" on Tuesday, Aug. 14. In the midst of shooting the blockbuster superhero movie, Downey was said to be performing his own stunt when an unexpected scare allegedly occurred while filming on location in Wilmington, N.C., according to Vibe

Director of the flick, Shane Black, made the decision to delay the production schedule for a short time while the 47-year-old recovers.

Marvel Studios came out with the following statement regarding the hurt actor, according to the New York Daily News:

"Robert Downey Jr. sustained an ankle injury on the set of 'Iron Man 3' in Wilmington, N.C., while performing a stunt. There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates."

Before the incident, Downey had spoken to the news publication in April and expressed his excitement for the latest installment of the film.

"Any time I put the suit on once I get past the initial discomfort, it's still fun," he confessed. "I definitely have a return to the sense of wonder that I had before doing the first 'Iron Man.'"

Marvel racked up an amazing $1.2 billion worldwide at the box office from both the first and second "Iron Man" films.

Despite the temporary halting in production, "Iron Man 3" is still slated for a May 3 release date.
